PTFE’s Wide Temperature Capability for Sealing and Gasketing

Sealing and gasketing components are key basic parts to ensure the tightness, safety and stable operation of industrial equipment, widely used in pipeline connection, equipment assembly, pressure vessel sealing, mechanical dynamic sealing and other scenarios. The working temperature of industrial sealing environments varies greatly, ranging from ultra-low cryogenic temperature to high-temperature industrial thermal environment. Traditional rubber, asbestos and ordinary plastic gaskets have narrow temperature adaptation ranges, which are easy to fail in extreme temperature environments, resulting in medium leakage, equipment pressure drop and safety hazards. PTFE sealing and gasketing products rely on their excellent wide temperature capability to achieve stable sealing performance in full temperature range, becoming the most reliable sealing solution for complex temperature working conditions PTFE SHEET.

PTFE gaskets and sealing parts have an ultra-wide effective working temperature range of -200°C to 260°C, covering almost all industrial sealing temperature scenarios. In ultra-low temperature sealing working conditions such as liquefied gas storage and transportation equipment and low-temperature chemical reaction kettles, ordinary rubber gaskets will harden and become brittle, lose elasticity and sealing compression performance, resulting in gaps and medium leakage. PTFE sealing materials can maintain excellent elasticity, compression resilience and structural flexibility at ultra-low temperatures, without brittle failure and shrinkage deformation, ensuring zero leakage of low-temperature equipment sealing interfaces.

In high-temperature industrial sealing scenarios such as high-temperature steam pipelines, thermal power equipment, chemical high-temperature reactors and high-temperature furnace equipment, traditional sealing materials are prone to thermal softening, aging decomposition and elastic failure, which cannot withstand long-term high-temperature pressure sealing. PTFE gaskets and PTFE TUBE sealing parts have excellent high-temperature thermal stability, no thermal decomposition and elastic attenuation under long-term high-temperature pressure, and can always maintain stable compression sealing performance. Even under high-temperature and high-pressure coupling working conditions, PTFE sealing components will not produce deformation failure and medium leakage, ensuring the long-term stable operation of high-temperature sealing systems.

In variable temperature sealing environments with frequent cold and hot alternation, PTFE’s wide temperature capability is more prominent. Many outdoor industrial pipelines, mobile mechanical equipment and intermittent production equipment need to bear seasonal temperature changes and equipment start-stop temperature fluctuations. Traditional gaskets are prone to thermal fatigue after repeated temperature expansion and contraction, resulting in loose sealing and accelerated aging. PTFE has a low thermal expansion coefficient and stable molecular structure, with small dimensional changes during temperature fluctuations, and can maintain stable sealing tightness after long-term cold and hot cycles, effectively solving the problem of easy failure of variable temperature sealing.

In addition to excellent wide temperature adaptability, PTFE sealing and gasketing products have comprehensive excellent properties such as chemical corrosion resistance, low friction, aging resistance and high pressure resistance. They can resist the erosion of acid, alkali, oil and various corrosive media in industrial sealing environments, and will not deteriorate or fail due to medium corrosion. The surface is smooth and friction-free, which can reduce the wear of sealing interfaces and improve the service life of sealing components. Expanded PTFE gaskets have good filling performance, which can fit uneven sealing surfaces and eliminate assembly gaps, further improving the reliability of wide-temperature sealing.

At present, PTFE wide-temperature sealing and gasketing products have been widely used in petrochemical industry, power energy, aerospace, mechanical manufacturing, cryogenic engineering and other fields. Engineering practice proves that PTFE sealing components can achieve long-term zero-failure operation in full temperature range working conditions, greatly reducing equipment leakage rate and maintenance cost. With the continuous improvement of industrial equipment sealing accuracy and environmental adaptability requirements, PTFE’s wide temperature sealing capability will continue to lead the upgrading of industrial sealing technology and provide reliable sealing guarantee for all-temperature industrial equipment.
