Large power transformers are key core equipment of regional power grids and UHV power transmission systems, undertaking the power conversion and transmission tasks of the entire power supply area. The operational reliability of large power transformers is directly related to the stability of regional power supply and the safety of power grid operation. Once insulation failure occurs in large transformers, it will easily cause large-scale power outages and huge economic losses, so the reliability requirements for insulation systems are extremely strict. Traditional insulation systems have poor long-term operational stability and hidden aging failure risks, which cannot fully meet the long-life and high-reliability operation requirements of large power transformers. PTFE insulation, with its ultra-high long-term reliability, has become the preferred insulation technology for large power transformers PTFE SHEET.
The high reliability of PTFE insulation in large power transformers is firstly reflected in ultra-stable long-term dielectric performance. Large transformers operate under full-load and high-voltage conditions for a long time, and the insulation system needs to bear continuous high electric field stress for decades. Traditional insulation materials will have gradual dielectric fatigue and performance attenuation with the extension of operation time, forming potential insulation hazards. PTFE insulation materials have permanent stable molecular dielectric characteristics, and their dielectric strength, insulation resistance and dielectric loss indicators remain almost unchanged after long-term operation. This long-term performance stability eliminates the aging failure risk of traditional insulation systems and ensures the lifelong insulation reliability of large transformers.
In terms of structural operational reliability, PTFE insulation adapts to the high-load dynamic operation characteristics of large transformers. Large power transformers have large volume and heavy load, and will generate continuous mechanical vibration and electromagnetic impact during operation. Traditional insulation layers are prone to loosening, cracking and peeling under long-term vibration, leading to insulation structural failure. PTFE insulation components have excellent mechanical toughness and vibration fatigue resistance. Integrated precision processed PTFE TUBE and sheet insulation structures are tightly fitted without gaps, which can resist long-term high-frequency vibration and electromagnetic impact, maintaining the integrity and stability of the insulation structure.
Thermal operational reliability is another key advantage of PTFE insulation for large transformers. Large transformers have large heat generation during full-load operation, and the internal thermal environment is harsh. Traditional insulation materials are prone to thermal aging and carbonization under long-term high-temperature heat accumulation, which reduces insulation reliability. PTFE insulation’s ultra-high temperature resistance and thermal stability enable it to operate stably in high-temperature environments for a long time without thermal failure. At the same time, its excellent heat dissipation compatibility reduces the internal heat accumulation of the transformer, further improving the thermal operational safety margin of the equipment.
The fault resistance reliability of PTFE insulation is far higher than that of traditional insulation systems. When large transformers face instantaneous faults such as voltage surge and short-circuit impact, traditional insulation is easily broken down and burned. PTFE insulation has excellent instantaneous voltage resistance and arc ablation resistance, which can resist short-term fault electric field impact and arc erosion, avoiding permanent insulation damage caused by equipment transient faults. This excellent fault tolerance greatly improves the operational safety and anti-risk capability of large power transformers.
Grid operation data statistics show that large power transformers equipped with PTFE insulation have zero major insulation failure accidents in long-term operation, and the annual insulation fault rate is far lower than that of traditional insulation transformers. The high reliability of PTFE insulation provides a solid safety guarantee for the stable operation of large-scale power grid equipment and has become an indispensable core technology for the construction of high-reliability modern power systems.
