A large number of power transformers are deployed in harsh outdoor and industrial environments such as coastal salt spray areas, chemical industrial parks, high-altitude low-pressure areas, dusty mining areas, and high-humidity rainy areas. These harsh environmental conditions bring multiple erosion and interference to transformer insulation systems: salt spray corrosion, chemical gas erosion, high-altitude ultraviolet radiation, dust accumulation pollution, and high-humidity moisture interference. Traditional transformer insulation materials are difficult to adapt to harsh environments, with frequent insulation aging, corrosion and discharge faults, resulting in high equipment failure rate and short service life. PTFE transformer insulation, with its ultra-strong environmental adaptability, has become the exclusive reliable insulation solution for transformers in harsh environmental conditions PTFE SHEET.
Coastal salt spray corrosion is one of the most common harsh environmental challenges for power transformers. Salt spray contains a large amount of chloride ions, which are easy to adhere to the surface of transformer insulation, causing electrochemical corrosion and surface leakage, inducing insulation flashover and discharge faults. Traditional resin and paper insulation materials are easily penetrated and corroded by salt spray, with rapid performance attenuation. PTFE insulation materials have excellent salt spray corrosion resistance, with inert molecular structure that does not react with salt spray media. The smooth non-stick surface prevents salt spray particles from adhering and accumulating, and can maintain stable insulation performance after long-term coastal environment operation without corrosion failure.
In chemical industrial park environments, transformers need to face the erosion of acidic, alkaline and organic chemical gases. Traditional insulation materials are prone to chemical swelling, molecular decomposition and aging failure after long-term exposure to chemical corrosive gases, which seriously endangers equipment safety. PTFE’s ultra-high chemical inertness enables it to resist almost all industrial corrosive media, without chemical reaction, deformation or performance degradation. It can stably operate in chemical harsh environments for a long time, providing reliable insulation protection for industrial transformers PTFE TUBE.
High-altitude and high-humidity environments also pose severe tests to transformer insulation. High-altitude areas have low air pressure and weak air insulation performance, which easily cause insulation partial discharge. At the same time, strong ultraviolet radiation accelerates the aging of organic insulation materials. PTFE insulation has excellent ultraviolet aging resistance and low-pressure discharge resistance, which can resist long-term high-altitude ultraviolet radiation and low-pressure electric field impact, maintaining stable insulation performance. In high-humidity environments, PTFE’s zero water absorption and super hydrophobicity completely isolate moisture interference, avoiding insulation resistance decline and leakage current increase caused by moisture absorption of traditional insulation materials.
For dusty mining and construction environments, PTFE transformer insulation has excellent anti-fouling and self-cleaning performance. The smooth surface is not easy to accumulate dust and dirt, and will not form conductive dust layers to cause insulation discharge faults. Even if a small amount of dust accumulates, it can be cleaned naturally by rainwater flushing, maintaining long-term clean insulation state. This solves the problem of frequent insulation flashover faults of transformers in dusty environments.
Long-term field operation verification shows that transformers using PTFE insulation in harsh environments have a failure rate reduced by more than 70% and service life increased by more than double compared with traditional insulation transformers. PTFE transformer insulation’s comprehensive harsh environment adaptability fills the technical gap of traditional insulation materials, providing solid insulation guarantee for the safe operation of power equipment in complex and harsh industrial and outdoor environments.
