ASTM D4894 Based PTFE Formulations for Low-Friction Bearing Surfaces

Sep 01,2026

By:Amptfe

Low-friction bearing surfaces are core components of mechanical transmission equipment, precision automation machinery, and aerospace moving parts, which require extremely low friction coefficient, excellent wear resistance, and stable self-lubricating performance. Traditional metal bearings and ordinary plastic bearings are prone to high friction resistance, easy wear, and lubricant failure under high-speed operation and dry friction conditions. PTFE materials have inherent ultra-low friction coefficient and self-lubricating properties, and ASTM D4894 standardized PTFE formulations further optimize the friction and wear performance of materials, providing high-reliability low-friction surface solutions for high-precision bearing components PTFE SHEET.

ASTM D4894 standardizes the basic formula system of low-friction PTFE materials, taking high-purity PTFE resin as the base material, and regulating the types, proportions, and dispersion uniformity of functional fillers for bearing applications. The standard optimizes the formula ratio to ensure that the material maintains ultra-low friction coefficient while improving wear resistance and mechanical bearing capacity, avoiding the problem that pure PTFE materials are easy to creep and wear in long-term friction working conditions. All formula components comply with ASTM D4894 purity and stability specifications, ensuring no impurity precipitation and performance attenuation during long-term friction operation.

PTFE bearing surface formulas based on ASTM D4894 have stable and excellent friction performance, with a static and dynamic friction coefficient far lower than other engineering plastic materials. Under dry friction, high-speed operation, and intermittent lubrication conditions, the material can form a uniform and stable self-lubricating film on the friction surface, effectively reducing friction resistance and surface wear. This low-friction characteristic reduces the operating power consumption of mechanical equipment, avoids heating and wear failure caused by friction, and improves the operational stability and service life of precision mechanical systems PTFE TUBE.

In addition to low-friction self-lubricating performance, ASTM D4894 based PTFE bearing formulas have excellent temperature resistance, creep resistance, and chemical stability. They can maintain stable low-friction performance in high-temperature working environments up to 260°C, and are not affected by industrial oil, chemical vapor, and humid environments. The optimized formula structure improves the surface hardness and compressive resistance of PTFE materials, solving the problem of easy deformation and failure of traditional PTFE bearing surfaces under load pressure. These comprehensive performances make ASTM D4894 PTFE the ideal material for high-precision and high-load bearing friction surfaces.

At present, ASTM D4894 standardized low-friction PTFE formulations are widely used in precision mechanical bearings, automation equipment sliding rails, aerospace moving friction pairs, and medical precision transmission components. They effectively reduce equipment friction loss, improve operation precision, and extend component service life. With the continuous improvement of mechanical equipment precision and energy-saving requirements, ASTM D4894 PTFE low-friction formula technology will be further optimized and popularized, becoming the mainstream material solution for high-performance self-lubricating bearing surfaces in modern precision machinery manufacturing.
