Crystallinity is a core microstructural indicator of PTFE materials, which directly determines the material’s mechanical strength, hardness, dimensional stability, chemical resistance, and thermal stability. PTFE raw powder has a certain initial crystallinity, but after compression molding, the internal molecular structure is disordered, with uneven crystal distribution and low structural regularity. The sintering process is the only manufacturing link that can induce overall recrystallization of PTFE molecules and fundamentally change the crystallinity state. In-depth analysis of sintering-induced crystallinity change rules can realize precise regulation of PTFE microstructure and macroscopic performance, which is crucial for customized production of high-performance PTFE components PTFE SHEET.
The crystallinity change of PTFE during sintering follows a complete law of molecular activation, disorder rearrangement, ordered recrystallization, and structural stabilization. In the low-temperature preheating stage of sintering, the internal molecular chains of PTFE are slightly activated, the disordered crystal structure formed by compression molding begins to loosen, and the residual molding stress is gradually released, but the overall crystallinity has no obvious change. When the temperature rises to the molecular fusion interval, the disordered molecular chains are fully activated, the original irregular crystal grains are broken and rearranged, and new ordered crystal structures begin to form, and the overall crystallinity increases rapidly with the extension of heat preservation time.
In the optimal sintering temperature interval, PTFE molecular recrystallization reaches the most stable state, with the highest and most uniform crystallinity. At this stage, the crystal grains grow uniformly, the arrangement is regular and compact, the amorphous region is greatly reduced, and the internal structural order of the material is significantly improved. High and uniform crystallinity endows PTFE materials with excellent mechanical hardness, structural compactness, and chemical corrosion resistance. The dense crystal structure can effectively block the penetration of corrosive media and improve the long-term stability of components in chemical industrial environments PTFE TUBE.
Unreasonable sintering parameters will lead to abnormal crystallinity changes and performance defects. Insufficient sintering temperature and short heat preservation time result in incomplete molecular recrystallization, low overall crystallinity, large amorphous regions, and disordered crystal distribution. The material has low structural compactness, poor mechanical strength, and easy deformation. Excessively high sintering temperature and overlong heat preservation time will cause excessive growth of PTFE crystal grains, coarse crystal structure, increased structural brittleness, and reduced material toughness. In addition, rapid cooling after sintering will interrupt the orderly recrystallization process, resulting in uneven local crystallinity and inconsistent internal and external structural performance.
Scientific sintering parameter control can realize precise regulation of PTFE crystallinity to meet the performance requirements of different application scenarios. For industrial anti-corrosion and wear-resistant PTFE parts, appropriately improved crystallinity can enhance structural compactness and service stability. For flexible and tough PTFE sealing components, moderate crystallinity can balance hardness and toughness to avoid brittle failure. Sintering-induced crystallinity regulation technology has become an important means of PTFE performance customization. By optimizing temperature, heat preservation time, and cooling rate, the crystallinity of PTFE materials can be controlled in the optimal range, realizing precise matching of microstructure and macroscopic performance, and promoting the high-end and refined development of PTFE processing technology.
