Ultra-thin PTFE films with thickness below 0.1mm are high-precision functional polymer materials, which are extremely sensitive to skiving line speed parameters. Unreasonable line speed is the main cause of ultra-thin film stretching deformation, thickness fluctuation, surface ripple, and edge fracture defects. Different from conventional thick PTFE sheet skiving, thin-film skiving requires extremely stable dynamic processing state, and line speed stability and matching accuracy directly determine the yield and quality of finished films. Scientific line speed optimization strategy is the core process guarantee for high-efficiency and high-quality production of PTFE thin films PTFE SHEET.
Excessively high skiving line speed will bring fatal quality risks to PTFE thin films. Ultra-thin films have extremely low structural rigidity and poor tensile resistance. High-speed peeling will produce instantaneous tensile force on the film, causing irreversible stretching deformation, resulting in thinner local thickness and overall dimensional instability. Excessively fast line speed will also lead to unstable blade feeding, forming periodic vibration ripples on the film surface, damaging surface flatness and uniformity. In severe cases, excessive tensile force will directly cause film fracture and edge tearing, reducing production yield and increasing material waste.
Excessively low line speed also restricts production efficiency and causes hidden quality problems. Long-term low-speed peeling increases the contact time between the blade and the film material, resulting in continuous friction heat accumulation and micro-thermal deformation of ultra-thin films. The slow peeling state will cause slight material extrusion and adhesion, leaving tiny tool marks on the film surface and affecting surface finish. For large-scale batch production of thin films, low line speed will greatly extend the production cycle, increase production costs, and cannot meet the market demand for high-volume customized delivery. Therefore, only optimized balanced line speed can balance quality and efficiency.
Segmented variable line speed optimization is the best solution for PTFE thin-film skiving. According to different film thickness specifications, targeted speed matching is carried out: ultra-thin films below 0.03mm adopt ultra-low stable constant line speed to ensure zero stretching and zero fracture; medium-thin films of 0.03mm to 0.1mm adopt moderate optimized line speed to improve production efficiency on the premise of ensuring quality. At the same time, the line speed is linked with spindle rotating speed to realize synchronous dynamic matching, avoiding speed difference causing material stress deformation. For thin films processed from fine-density PTFE TUBE blanks, finer speed calibration is performed to adapt to blank structural characteristics.
Verified by industrial mass production, the optimized line speed strategy completely solves common defects such as thin-film deformation, ripple, and fracture, achieving 100% flat and uniform forming of ultra-thin PTFE films. The batch consistency of film thickness and surface quality is significantly improved, and the production efficiency is increased by more than 35% compared with the traditional fixed-speed process. Line speed optimization technology has become a standardized core process for PTFE thin-film skiving, providing reliable technical support for large-scale high-quality production of high-precision PTFE thin-film functional materials.
