PTFE Skiving for High-Performance Sealing Applications

Jul 31,2026

By:Amptfe

High-performance industrial sealing systems put forward ultra-high requirements on material flatness, thickness uniformity, surface finish, and compression resilience. Traditional molded PTFE sealing products have unavoidable defects such as uneven thickness, poor surface flatness, and residual internal stress, which are easy to cause sealing gaps and early failure in high-pressure and corrosive sealing environments. PTFE skiving technology, with its advantages of high precision, high flatness, and low-stress forming, has become the optimal processing solution for high-performance PTFE sealing products, widely used in chemical industry, hydraulic machinery, power equipment, and new energy sealing scenarios PTFE SHEET.

Skived PTFE sealing materials have excellent dimensional accuracy and flatness, which are the core advantages to improve sealing performance. Precision skiving processing realizes micron-level thickness tolerance control, ensuring that the overall thickness of sealing gaskets and lining sheets is uniform without local deviation. The ultra-smooth skived surface can achieve zero-gap fitting with the equipment sealing surface, completely solving the medium leakage problem caused by uneven surface of traditional sealing materials. In high-pressure sealing working conditions, uniform stress-bearing structure avoids local stress concentration, improving the compression resistance and structural stability of sealing parts.

Low-stress forming characteristics of skiving greatly improve the fatigue resistance of PTFE sealing materials. Molded PTFE products will produce large residual internal stress during sintering and molding, which will gradually release in cyclic compression and temperature alternating environments, resulting in warping deformation and sealing failure. PTFE skiving adopts layered cold peeling process, which can fully release the internal stress of the blank during processing, making the internal molecular structure of the sealing material more stable. Skived sealing products can maintain stable structural shape and sealing performance after thousands of cyclic compression tests, with far longer service life than molded products. Tubular sealing parts processed from PTFE TUBE blanks by skiving have uniform wall thickness and excellent concentricity, suitable for shaft sealing and rotary sealing scenarios.

Skived PTFE sealing materials retain the excellent inherent performance of PTFE to the greatest extent. The cold processing principle of skiving will not damage the chemical inertness, high and low temperature resistance, and low friction performance of PTFE materials. The finished sealing products can stably resist strong acid, strong alkali, organic solvent corrosion, and adapt to -200°C to 260°C extreme temperature working environments. In high-speed friction sealing scenarios, the ultra-smooth skived surface reduces friction wear, avoiding sealing failure caused by material abrasion and particle falling off.

At present, skived PTFE sealing products have become the mainstream materials for high-performance industrial sealing systems, replacing traditional rubber, ordinary plastic, and molded PTFE sealing materials. They are widely used in precision hydraulic equipment, chemical reaction kettle sealing, power transformer sealing, and new energy battery sealing systems. With the continuous improvement of industrial sealing precision and reliability requirements, PTFE skiving technology will be further popularized in the high-end sealing field, providing more stable and durable sealing solutions for modern industrial equipment.
