PTFE Nuclear Grade for Containment Systems

Nuclear containment system is the core safety barrier of nuclear power plants, undertaking the important function of isolating nuclear radiation, blocking radioactive substance leakage and resisting extreme accident impact. The long-term sealing stability, radiation resistance and environmental adaptability of containment system materials directly determine the safety level of nuclear power facilities. Nuclear grade PTFE is the optimal sealing and insulation material for nuclear containment systems by virtue of its ultra-high purity, excellent radiation aging resistance, extreme temperature stability and permanent sealing performance PTFE SHEET.

Nuclear containment systems work in harsh environments for a long time, including continuous nuclear radiation irradiation, high-temperature steam erosion, seasonal temperature alternation and equipment vibration impact. Traditional sealing materials such as rubber and ordinary plastic are easy to age, harden and crack after long-term operation, resulting in sealing failure and radioactive medium leakage. In the structural sealing of containment systems, nuclear grade PTFE sheet materials are used for integral gap sealing and lining protection of containment walls, which can effectively isolate internal radioactive substances and external air environment, and prevent the diffusion of radioactive pollutants. At the same time, supporting PTFE TUBE sealing components are applied to the penetration parts of containment pipelines and cables, realizing the tight sealing of pipeline gaps while ensuring the safe transmission of media and signals, and eliminating potential leakage risks of containment weak points.

In extreme accident working conditions such as temperature surge and pressure impact in containment, nuclear grade PTFE can still maintain structural integrity and sealing reliability. Its excellent high-temperature resistance can withstand the instantaneous high-temperature impact of accident steam, and its good toughness and pressure resistance can resist the pressure fluctuation of containment space. Different from traditional materials that are easy to fail in extreme working conditions, nuclear grade PTFE will not melt, crack or lose efficacy instantly, providing valuable safety buffer time for nuclear accident disposal.

In addition, nuclear grade PTFE used for containment systems has ultra-low outgassing and non-radioactive activation characteristics, which will not pollute the internal air environment of containment or produce secondary radioactive pollutants. It fully meets the ultra-clean and high-safety operation standards of nuclear containment systems. As the core safety barrier material of nuclear power plants, nuclear grade PTFE plays an irreplaceable role in improving the accident resistance and overall safety level of nuclear containment systems, and is an important guarantee for the safe operation of nuclear power facilities.
