PTFE acid and alkali resistance

Strong acid and strong alkali corrosion is the most severe chemical corrosion form in industrial production, widely existing in chemical industry, metallurgy, electroplating, environmental protection wastewater treatment, pharmaceutical and battery manufacturing industries. Strong acid and alkali media have extremely strong oxidation and corrosion ability, which can quickly erode and damage ordinary metal materials, plastic materials and anti-corrosion coatings, resulting in equipment perforation, medium leakage and production safety accidents. The acid and alkali resistance of materials directly determines the service life and operation safety of industrial equipment in corrosive working conditions. PTFE materials are famous for their extreme acid and alkali resistance, and are the only polymer materials that can resist long-term erosion of almost all strong acid and strong alkali media in the industrial field PTFE SHEET.

PTFE’s excellent acid and alkali resistance is derived from its ultra-stable fluorocarbon molecular inert structure. The dense fluorine atom protective layer completely wraps the carbon chain skeleton, and the ultra-high energy carbon-fluorine covalent bond cannot be destroyed by the chemical energy of strong acid and strong alkali. In high-concentration sulfuric acid, nitric acid, hydrochloric acid, hydrofluoric acid and other strong acid environments, PTFE will not produce dissolution, expansion, oxidation and corrosion. In high-concentration sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide and other strong alkali solutions, PTFE also maintains completely stable physical and chemical properties. This extreme acid and alkali resistance is incomparable to PP, PVC, PE and other common anti-corrosion plastics, which are easily corroded and failed in strong acid and alkali environments.

In actual industrial extreme working conditions, PTFE still maintains stable acid and alkali resistance under the superposition of high temperature, high pressure and strong acid and alkali. Most anti-corrosion materials can only resist acid and alkali corrosion at room temperature, and their anti-corrosion performance will drop sharply or even fail completely under high temperature conditions. However, PTFE materials can resist long-term erosion of boiling strong acid and high-temperature strong alkali, and maintain intact structural stability and performance. PTFE acid and alkali resistant products include sheets, tubes, rods, gaskets and customized lining parts, which can meet the anti-corrosion needs of all acid-base industrial scenarios PTFE TUBE is widely used in acid-base medium transmission pipelines and equipment anti-corrosion protection.

The acid and alkali resistance of PTFE also has excellent long-term stability, without performance attenuation and aging failure with the extension of service time. Traditional acid and alkali resistant materials will gradually absorb acid and alkali media, resulting in internal structural damage and performance degradation after long-term use. PTFE has zero water absorption and zero medium permeability, which can completely isolate the penetration of acid and alkali media, and will not have medium aging and internal corrosion problems. After more than 10 years of long-term immersion in strong acid and alkali solution, PTFE materials still maintain smooth surface, stable size and consistent mechanical and chemical properties.

Industrial application practice fully proves the superior acid and alkali resistance of PTFE materials. In metallurgical pickling lines, electroplating production lines, chemical acid-base reaction tanks and wastewater treatment equipment, PTFE anti-corrosion components have replaced traditional anti-corrosion materials in large quantities, completely solving the problem of frequent equipment corrosion and replacement. It greatly reduces the production cost and maintenance frequency of enterprises, and improves the continuity and safety of industrial production.
