Porosity and Air Permeability of Microporous PTFE Coated Fabrics

Jul 23,2026

By:Amptfe

Industrial filtration, breathable protection, environmental dust removal, and ventilation isolation scenarios require functional fabrics that balance barrier performance and air permeability. Traditional dense coated fabrics have good isolation effect but completely block air circulation, resulting in poor ventilation and stuffiness; ordinary breathable fabrics have good air permeability but lack effective barrier and anti-pollution capabilities. Microporous PTFE coated fabrics form a unique micro-pore structure through special stretching and coating technology, realizing the perfect integration of precise porosity control, efficient air permeability and functional barrier performance PTFE SHEET.

The microporous structure of PTFE coated fabric is composed of countless uniform micro-pores with pore sizes ranging from 0.1 to 0.5 microns. The precise pore size design enables the fabric to have excellent air permeability, allowing air molecules and water vapor to circulate freely and ensuring smooth internal and external air convection. This effectively solves the problem of poor air permeability and easy moisture accumulation of traditional fully coated fabrics, greatly improving the comfort and ventilation efficiency of breathable protective and filtration equipment.

While ensuring air permeability, the microporous structure of PTFE coating has efficient interception and barrier capabilities. The micro-pores are far smaller than dust particles, liquid droplets, and fine particulate pollutants, which can effectively block external dust, haze, water mist, and fine impurity particles, realizing the functional characteristics of "air permeability but impermeability to water and dust". This unique one-way breathable and barrier performance makes microporous PTFE coated fabrics widely used in environmental protection filtration and personal breathable protection fields.

Matched with PTFE TUBE filtration and isolation auxiliary materials, microporous PTFE coated fabrics have stable porosity and air permeability after long-term use. Different from ordinary microporous materials that are easy to block and deform, PTFE coating has ultra-low surface energy and self-cleaning performance, which is not easy to adsorb dust and impurities, ensuring long-term unobstructed micro-pores and stable air permeability. It has excellent pressure resistance and structural stability, and the microporous structure will not be damaged or deformed under external pressure and friction.

Microporous PTFE coated fabrics are widely used in industrial dust filter cloth, environmental protection air filtration materials, breathable protective clothing fabrics, equipment ventilation isolation layers, and fresh air system filter materials. Its adjustable porosity and graded air permeability can meet the ventilation and filtration requirements of different industrial scenarios. With the improvement of industrial environmental protection standards and personal protection comfort requirements, microporous PTFE coated fabrics with balanced air permeability and barrier performance have become mainstream functional materials in the filtration and protection industry, achieving efficient and stable breathable filtration protection.
