PTFE materials have a significantly higher thermal expansion coefficient than ordinary engineering plastics and metal materials, making dimensional deformation under thermal loads the most common and difficult problem in CNC machining. In the process of high-speed cutting, drilling, and milling, friction heat and cutting heat form instantaneous thermal loads on PTFE workpieces, causing local thermal expansion and structural deformation. After processing and cooling, uneven shrinkage leads to dimensional tolerance out-of-tolerance, structural warping, and shape distortion, seriously affecting the batch consistency and service stability of PTFE products. Studying the thermal deformation law and formulating targeted stability control strategies are the key to high-precision PTFE CNC manufacturing PTFE SHEET.
The thermal load deformation mechanism of PTFE is divided into instantaneous processing thermal deformation and post-processing residual shrinkage deformation. Instantaneous thermal load causes the workpiece local temperature to rise rapidly, the material expands outward, and the cutting size is larger than the standard size; after the workpiece is cooled to room temperature, thermal shrinkage occurs, resulting in overall dimensional reduction. Due to the uneven heat distribution on the surface and inside of the workpiece, the shrinkage degree of different positions is inconsistent, resulting in comprehensive deformation problems such as flatness deviation, hole position offset, and edge warping. For large-size thin plates and complex special-shaped PTFE parts, thermal load deformation is more obvious and difficult to control.
Full-process low-thermal-load processing strategy is the core measure to control dimensional deformation. Optimized CNC processing parameters reduce cutting heat generation from the source: reasonable matching of spindle speed and feed rate avoids excessive friction heat accumulation; layered micro-cutting disperses instantaneous cutting load and reduces local heat concentration. Efficient cooling and heat dissipation systems including air cooling and micro-lubrication take away cutting heat in real time, control the workpiece temperature fluctuation within a small range, and avoid large-scale thermal expansion deformation. For large-batch processed PTFE TUBE and plate products, constant-temperature processing environment is equipped to eliminate ambient temperature interference.
Thermal deformation compensation and post-processing stabilization treatment further improve dimensional accuracy. According to the measured thermal expansion and shrinkage law of PTFE materials, the CNC system presets dimensional compensation parameters to offset the shrinkage error after workpiece cooling. After processing, the workpieces are placed in a constant-temperature environment for natural aging and stress relief, eliminating residual thermal stress and micro-deformation. For high-precision parts, secondary fine calibration and trimming are carried out after full cooling to ensure that the final dimensional tolerance completely meets the standard requirements.
Thermal load stability control technology completely solves the dimensional instability problem of PTFE CNC machining. The processed workpieces have accurate and stable dimensions, no warping or distortion deformation, and excellent batch consistency. The long-term dimensional stability of finished products is significantly improved, and no slow shrinkage or deformation occurs during storage and use. This control technology provides a reliable guarantee for the production of high-precision and high-stability PTFE components, and is widely used in high-end fields such as precision equipment manufacturing, power insulation engineering, and chemical precision sealing systems.
