Advanced PTFE Dielectric Insulators for Aircraft Systems

Modern aircraft electrical and electronic systems are developing towards high voltage, high frequency, high integration and intelligentization, which puts forward ultra-high requirements for the dielectric performance, stability and reliability of insulation components. Aircraft systems work in complex and variable environments, including high-altitude low-pressure discharge environment, in-flight vibration impact, engine high-temperature radiation and humid and saline-alkali environment during takeoff and landing. Traditional dielectric insulators are prone to dielectric breakdown, partial discharge and performance attenuation, which seriously affect the operational safety of aircraft electrical systems. Advanced PTFE dielectric insulators, relying on ultra-high dielectric strength and stable electrical performance, have become the core supporting components of modern aircraft systems PTFE SHEET.

Advanced PTFE dielectric insulators have excellent and stable dielectric properties that are incomparable to traditional insulation materials. The dielectric strength of high-purity aviation-grade PTFE can reach 40–60kV/mm, which can effectively withstand high-frequency voltage impact and instantaneous surge voltage of aircraft power systems. Its ultra-low dielectric loss and stable dielectric constant ensure that the signal transmission of aircraft precision electronic systems is not disturbed, avoiding signal distortion and data deviation caused by dielectric loss. In high-frequency alternating current working environment of aircraft avionics systems, PTFE insulators can maintain zero-frequency drift and stable insulation performance, ensuring the accurate operation of navigation, communication, control and other key systems.

Aircraft systems have extremely strict environmental adaptability requirements for dielectric insulators. Advanced PTFE insulators can adapt to the full temperature working range of aircraft from low-altitude normal temperature to high-altitude ultra-low temperature and engine high-temperature area. Different from ceramic and glass insulators which are brittle and easy to crack, PTFE dielectric insulators have good flexibility and mechanical toughness, can buffer mechanical vibration and impact during aircraft flight, and avoid insulation failure caused by component cracking. A variety of customized structural products processed from aviation-grade PTFE raw materials, including high-precision PTFE TUBE insulators and special-shaped dielectric gaskets, can meet the insulation and isolation requirements of different positions of aircraft power systems.

In terms of anti-interference and anti-discharge performance, advanced PTFE dielectric insulators show outstanding advantages. High-altitude low-pressure environment reduces air insulation capacity, and aircraft electrical equipment is prone to partial discharge and arc discharge. PTFE materials have excellent arc resistance and corona resistance, which can resist long-term partial discharge erosion and instantaneous arc impact, effectively preventing insulation breakdown and equipment short circuit. At the same time, PTFE has super hydrophobic and anti-fouling performance, which can resist the erosion of rainwater, fog, salt fog and dust in the flight environment, avoid insulation resistance decline and dielectric performance degradation caused by environmental pollution, and ensure the long-term stable operation of aircraft electrical systems.

After a large number of aviation engineering verifications, aircraft systems equipped with advanced PTFE dielectric insulators have significantly reduced electrical failure rate and improved system operation stability by more than 45%. With the upgrading of new generation civil aviation aircraft, military aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicle systems, high-performance PTFE dielectric insulators are gradually popularized in the whole aircraft electrical system, becoming an indispensable key component to ensure the safety, stability and efficient operation of modern aircraft systems.
